the lottery
¨Consider how this story would change if it was told from a different point of view. How would Bill Hutchinson or Tessie Hutchinson tell the story? What if the reader knew all of their thoughts? Write a news story about the event of the lottery, focusing on an interview with one of the townspeople. What would they say about the event?
¨Use the question stems sheet to create at least 5 interview questions to ask one of the characters within the story and include this information in your news story. warm up |

graffiti board/book review/RECOMMENDATION/literary elements
Your task is to create an ongoing graffiti board that illustrates specific literary elements (see lit elements pdf below for more information) and a review/recommendation of your novel. This will be a living document (for at least a week, that is), as it will be added to daily for the next week. You may format your graffiti board however you like, however, it must include the following: title, author, theme, conflict, tone, setting, symbolism, 4 examples of figurative language, irony, the point of view, and a well written review of the novel that includes a recommendation as to why someone should read this novel. This graffiti board will reflect your novel, its elements, and you as a reader, and the final product must include all of the information listed above, as well as a well written review that includes a recommendation (use the book review writing tips document below as a guideline for writing your review). As I stated earlier, your graffiti board is representative of you as a reader, as well as your novel, so spelling and grammar count, as well as the color/shade choice because it must reflect the tone of the novel, i.e. an ominous book's colors should be dark and dreary. A thorough graffiti board with little or no errors that reflects all of the above will be deserving of an A, if elements are left off, there are spelling/grammar errors, points will be deducted and the final grade will be reflective of such.
